GTS Proliferation on West Coast
April 29, 2009 5:36 PM —
The national office is excited to report a tremendous growth phase in the German Touring Series (GTS) class on the West Coast. In prior years, GTS fields were smaller on the West Coast in comparison to the large groups seen in NASA Mid West and East Coast areas. With the announcement of the NASA National Championships moving to Miller Motorsports Park in Utah for 2009, GTS interest has been steadily growing.
“We are typically seeing car counts nearing 20, and it’s only two
events into the season,” said Nor Cal Regional Director, Jerry
Kunzman. “Just having watched another Nor Cal GTS round this past
weekend, I am more than pleased.” The Nor Cal Region drivers have all
watched this phenomenon, and taken notice of the great racing in the
GTS class, comprised mostly of Porches.
In Southern California the fields are just as large, with more than 20 drivers securing points in the GTS points regional championship. The manufacturer distribution is quite even between BMW and Porsche that is building a fantastic rivalry. “The enthusiasm and support from the drivers has been amazing and it shows in their participation,” commented So Cal Regional Director, Ryan Flaherty. “Many of our GTS drivers are planning to compete at National Championships in September, which will be great boost for this national series.”
