Group F Qualifying Race 2, 4:35 p.m. (25 minute race)

Spec Miata

Spec Miata

Sammy Valafar, sponsored by TheMessBeforeSuccess.com, won the first qualifying race in his Mazda Miata and then set the pole in morning qualifying for the second Spec Miata qualifying race.  Dean Thomas, sponsored by Evil Genius Racing, qualified second just a tenth behind Valafar (Dean finished third in the first qualifying race).  When the green flag dropped three Spec Miatas pulled away from the pack, Valafar leading, Thomas in second and Tyler Vance, sponsored by TMG, Rush Motorsport and Sparco, right behind Thomas.  Valafar held his lead but Thomas would peek his nose in at Club House Corner and Wind Up.  Every time Thomas would try a pass on Valafar, Vance would close the gap on Thomas.  On the white flag lap Thomas looked to one side of Valafar at Club House, then he switched to another side at Wind Up desperately trying to get by Valafar before the start finish line.  This back and forth gave Vance the opportunity he was looking for and he snuck by Thomas.  Valafar drove off to win his second qualifying race, earning him the pole for the championship race on Saturday.  Thomas and Vance had a drag race to the finish line with Thomas finishing the Spec Miata race in second, earning him the number two grid spot for the qualifying race.  Vance finished a close third.

The two separate qualifying races (one Thursday and one Friday) determine grid positions for NASA National Championship races Saturday and Sunday September 18-19, 2010, at Miller Motorsports Park.
