NASA CROWNS 40 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS AT MID-OHIO

The National Auto Sport Association (NASA) crowned 40 national champions during the inaugural NASA Championships presented by Toyo Tires last weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

More than 430 competitors from across the country came to the Lexington, Ohio, road course to compete in the season-ending event, which decided champions in nine groups of 40 different classes and awarded over $500,000 in contingency sponsorships to NASA member racers.

The inaugural NASA Championships featured three days of action-packed racing at the demanding 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit in what is now one of the largest amateur road racing weekends in the U.S. Championships were decided in a number of racing disciplines, including road racing, time trialing, autocross and drifting.

“We are ecstatic with how our inaugural championship weekend turned out,” said Bryan Cohn, National Competition Manager for NASA. “The event itself was a tremendous success and really was really a testament to professional driving, clean racing and the dedication of the NASA and Mid-Ohio staffs, including 130 volunteers who came from all across the country. We’re looking forward to the next four years and continuing our great relationship with TrueSports, Incorporated and Mid-Ohio.”

Off the track, The Mid-Ohio School hosted a demonstration of its autocross drill, typically seen in the School’s Acura High Performance Program. Competitors and fans alike participated in the drill, and individual winners in both groups were named at the end of each day. “We’re thrilled with the way this inaugural event came together and the support we received from fans, volunteers and sponsors like Toyo Tires,” said TrueSports, Incorporated President Michelle Trueman Gajoch. “The racing was as exceptional as the atmosphere, and it’s a testament to NASA’s members, its growth and professionalism.” The National Auto Sport Association is the fastest-growing amateur road racing sanctioning body in the United States, with more than 10,000 members in 13 regions across the country. The organization annually hosts 150 events nationwide and the year-end NASA Championships at Mid-Ohio.

Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a permanent road racing circuit with two primary configurations: a 2.4-mile, 15-turn, and a 2.25-mile, 13-turn circuit in Lexington, Ohio. Located 60 miles north of Columbus and 75 miles south of Cleveland near Mansfield, the track has been called the most competitive in the U.S. and annually hosts a diversity of locally, regionally and nationally sanctioned racing events for amateur, club and professional riders and drivers.

Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, TrueSports, Incorporated is a privately held motorsports entertainment enterprise. The company owns and operates Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and The Mid-Ohio School, and promotes a wide variety of motor racing, driver instruction, corporate, and family entertainment events throughout the year.
