Rohnert Park, CA, April 1, 2004 - Opak Racing and NASA are pleased to announce a strategic alliance that will introduce thousands of new enthusiasts to organized track events and promote the sport of auto racing within the growing youth import auto enthusiast community. The alliance centers on close cooperation that could redefine motorsports activities in the United States as the program develops. Opak's customers will be able to join NASA through a special program that will allow them to put the Spoon Sports products that they have purchased from Opak to the test at NASA's track events nationwide.
“Our partnership with NASA combined with the Spoon Sports name will benefit car enthusiasts of all ages,” said Edmun Laurea, President and CEO of Opak Racing. He added that “we want to specifically attract young people to participate in organized events so they can enjoy the sport at the race track with NASA's guidance as well as learn about the dangers of illegal street racing”.
“This is a grassroots movement in motor sports. We want to provide a safe platform for individuals, groups, and car clubs to actively participate in road racing instead of just being on the sidelines. The alliance with Opak Racing, as a Spoon US representative, will draw Spoon Sports fans into participating in NASA events and bring a new breed of members to NASA,” said Jerry Kunzman, CEO and co-founder of NASA.
Initially, NASA and Opak Racing will be signing up new members in Northern California, although potential members from other states are welcome to join through Opak Racing/Spoon Authorized Dealers, Tuning Centers, and Business Partners. Members can participate in sanctioned road racing, high performance driving events (HPDE), technical seminars, as well as enroll in training and certification programs designed for beginners, intermediate, and advanced drivers.
The inaugural Northern California events will be held at Thunderhill Raceway, Infineon Raceway, Reno-Fernley Raceway, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
“This is just the beginning,” says Kunzman. “The excitement is expected to grow after the initial rollout. This represents a real change in the way car enthusiasts can actively express their passion for motorsports. The best is yet to come.”
