First NASA Rally Sport Event A Huge Success!
The first NASA Rally Sport event took place on August 16, 2003 in Gorman, CA. The Gorman Ridge Rally saw a record field of 50 cars register for the event that covered ten challenging stages over mountain passes just north of Los Angeles. High temperatures did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the competitors who attacked the dirt with vigor.

“I am very happy with how today’s event turned out,” said NASA Chief Divisional Director John Lindsey, who attended the rally and worked on one of the sweep vehicles for the duration of the event. “This was my first rally and it was a real education. I am amazed at how well prepared the teams were and how physically demanding it is to complete a tough all-day event like Gorman Ridge. Despite being exhausted at the end of the day, I had a great time!”

NASA Rally Sport Director and Gorman Ridge organizer Ray Hocker added that “We really enjoyed our first weekend as a NASA-sanctioned program and we’re looking forward to the future. The record car count and all the smiling faces at the end of the day told us that we’re doing something right.”

The next NASA Rally Sport event will be the Cherokee Trails Rally on September 6, 2003. For more information on NASA Rally Sport, please visit the Rally Sport section of nasaforums.com.
