| Perforce Software Named Title Sponsor for Inaugural Rally Sprint

 Perforce Software, the makers of Fast Software Configuration Management tools, announced today that it would be the title sponsor for the inaugural rally sprint at Santa Maria Speedway on October 11th, 2003. They are also supporting the rally cross event held the next day, Oct 12th. Perforce currently sponsors the Widget Rally Team on the performance rally circuit.
The event name is now officially the Perforce Software Rally Sprint and Rally Cross.
Jim Pluhar, Public Relations Director for the speedway, added "Our fans have never seen anything like this before. We're taking a third-mile oval track and converting it to a mile-and-a-half long rally sprint course." The gates open at 1 PM on Saturday for a 2 PM start.
On Sunday, the folks in the stands get their turn to race at the track. "Saturday's rally sprint requires race cars with the necessary safety gear such as roll cages and anti-fire systems. The rally cross on Sunday, however, is designed for street cars. It gives our fans a low-cost way to try their hand racing in the dirt."
"Rallying is a bit different from oval racing," noted event organizer John Dillon of Thousand Oaks. "Oval guys race under the lights--rallyists bring their lights with them! After dark we're going to let the rallyists race by headlight for at least a couple of stages. We think the crowd will really love it!"
The Perforce Software Rally Sprint and Rally Cross is sanctioned by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) and is part of the California Rally Series rally sprint championship.
"The Santa Maria Speedway staff has been very helpful in making this event happen," noted Dillon. "We're looking forward to our inaugural event." "Thanks to Perforce Software, we're able to drop the entry fee down to practically nothing. Our competitors really appreciate what they do for us."
